Week 2 – FAITH – Purple Candle
The Science of Faith
Many people would argue that science requires faith. After all, most scientific theories cannot be fully proven. Therefore, some faith is required to believe that ideas that have been inferred are fact. “There is a human need for finding meaning, sparing us from existential angst while also supporting social organization”, researchers say. Those of us who believe know that our need to believe comes from our creator, but scientists and psychologists have been trying to explain it as long as there have been scientists and psychologists.
We know that we are longing to be back in the garden where we walked with God in the cool of the day. We know that we are longing for Jesus to come again and take us all into community with the Triune God.
One thing that scientists have started to agree on is that children tend to see the world as created for a purpose. They find that young children, even kids who’ve never been taught about God, attribute supernatural abilities and immortality to God. They even have elaborate stories about life before they were born.
No wonder Jesus says we should be like the little children! And no wonder Christmas time brings out the kids in us!
