The One with Enough

You are enough!

It’s a nice self-soothing thought.  And, in one way, it’s true.  God made you in His image for a certain purpose. You don’t have to try to be something you aren’t.  You are enough…in that sense.

Episode 8 comes from a retreat where I spoke last spring.  The theme of the retreat is “I am enough because HE is enough” and I knew where I was going with that.  Our gifts (and short-comings) are often celebrated without celebrating the Giver.  The praise is due Him, not ourselves.

There have been many times in my life where I felt like I wasn’t enough by my own standards.  But there have also been times when I wasn’t enough according to someone else’s standards.  That’s where I want to go on this post now.

I want to lead with this: nobody else has the right to tell you that you aren’t good enough, that you are worthless, or that you are less than they are.  Nobody.  I know some of you need to hear the phrase “YOU ARE ENOUGH” because you’ve been abused by somebody who made you feel like you are worthless.

You are not worthless.

You have great worth.

YOU were created by the Maker of the Universe.  He cares more about YOU than the most beautiful flowers of the field, the birds of the air, the beasts of the land, and the majestic creatures of the sea.  He made it all and YOU are what He treasures.  His opinion of you matters much more than anyone else’s – including your own!

And do you know what His opinion is?  Here are just a few of the things God says about you:

  • You are HIS: “I have called you by name and you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1
  • You are victorious (1 Corinthians 15:57)
  • You have a glorious future (Romans 8:18)
  • You are loved by Him (John 17:22-23)
  • You are KNOWN (John 10:27-28, Jeremiah 1:5)
  • You are chosen (Psalm 50:15)
  • You are set free (John 8:36)
